The Surreal Seas

I've always had a fascination with the world beneath the sea. I was born and raised on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Which probably accounts for my love of oceans. The Surreal Seas series began when I found some badly damaged model ships in a second hand store. As often happens an idea immediately jumped into my head for creating a series of art around them. Over time I collected other materials including airplanes and vehicles. All pieces are spray painted black first and then overlaid with a phosphorescent paint which gives them that sort of odd surreal look. All the shots are staged in studio and then shot in the dark. Each image takes from 15-40 hours to create. Many of them include original sculpted work that I've created over the years. This series is ongoing and work will be added in the coming year.
