Holding Up Progress

This new sculpture is based on a dream I had. In this dream was a giant man, his arms extended on either side of him, holding up two towering skyscrapers. The image stuck in my mind when I woke and I immediately knew I needed to create a sculpture based on the image.

The first step in the process was to use a 12" wooden model in conjunction with dry foam to find a pleasing configuration for the sculpture. I've laid it out in several different ways but so far this is the one I am partial to. That may change as I continue along in the process

At this stage it doesn't look like much, but its sort of like playing with blocks but envisioning whole cities with them. Once I find a system of blocks that I feel is pleasing to the eye, then each block will be crafted and etched and painted first then joined to the next one. Most likely the figure in the middle will be one of the last to be added.

UPDATE

I had to sit on this project for a few weeks until I came up with a better design for it. There were some fundamental flaws that I kept running into that had to do with the materials I wanted to use for the piece.

The newer design is stabler and combines a previous conceptual idea I'd been working with months ago into this new design. More updates soon!
