You walk down a street. You go to work in a crowded city. You sit in a park. You relax in your home. This is your world.
You think of it in terms of the "now". But the reality is that all of these places have existed for many others. Another person sat where you sat. Another person walked down the same streets you walked, someone traveled that path before you and someone will travel it after.
But we rarely think about such things. We do not walk down that street and think " this is where a man walked yesterday, or a decade ago." To us the street is our reality and belongs to only us.
But sometimes other realities intrude. We see things we are not meant to see, We hear sounds that do not belong. We convince ourselves that its only an illusion. We write it off as a trick of the eye or a quirk of the senses. We shrug it off and go about our business. But deep down inside we know better.
In the end we have to ask ourselves. Are they intruding on our reality, or are we really intruding on their theirs? And do we face many of the same issues just repeated over and over again through time?
Time is not as solid as we think it is. Time Intrudes.

Artists Notes:
United States copyright law allows the open use of photographs taken before January of 1923. With that I set to work bringing back to life some of the faces and images of the deep past Its not always easy as some photos are in pretty bad shape and are often too small to be used without some detailed resizing. I recolor some of the images or revert them from sepia tones back to a simple black and white pallet.
Its extremely emotional to work with these faces from the past. In a way it feels like I am bringing a bit of their spirits back to life and saving them from being lost in time. Its also challenging to my skills as an artist to merge the past and the present.
I use my own photos for the present settings. I wish I could cite the original photographers of the old photos but sadly most of these talented photographers of the dawn of photography have long since vanished, leaving only these images behind to remind us of their skills. I have included the original source photo with each piece.
If you ever see a photo that you think might be proprietary, please let me know immediately so the image can be investigated and removed if necessary.
