(BTC) Spiritual Erosion (Grey Cross)

BTC Stands for "Behind the Curtain". Its a look at work created by various artists, photographers and creators around the world.
Its a small peak behind the curtain as to how the piece was created and the conceptual ideas behind it.

All art comes with a story.

I've been in a lot of creepy cemeteries over the years. This one was hands down was one of the creepiest. This odd little decrepit burial ground was located down in the Bayous of southern Louisiana. It was sad and silent in the extreme heat of summer. There was a total absence of noise. No birds, no cars, no breeze. It reminded me of being in a box filled with cotton.

Its the first cemetery I've ever been in where there was an actual smell of death. And as we walked the reason became evident as we came an coffin, recently placed in a tomb similar to the one above in the background. It had no cement front. It was just sort of partially shoved into the gaping hole and left to the elements. It was from here that the foul funk of death was issuing out of. Mind you there were no flowers. No mementos. Absolutely nothing that a traditional burial would have. Just a brand new burgundy colored coffin, haphazardly placed.

As we cautiously moved past it, the feel of being wrapped in cotton batting got stronger. Whoever it was (and no there was no burial marker to tell us who it was), was not happy about their situation.

There are no photos of this. It seemed very ummm inappropriate to snap even one image of this macabre scene. We moved past it and I took a few photos like the decaying statue of Mary above, but it was obvious we were no wanted there and we quickly made our way through it and back out.

As for the art itself, my favorite aspect of it, is that both Mary and the ghost have the same face and are in the same basic pose. A lot of people seem to miss that fact. I think I felt that there was one dominant force in this cemetery and it could be seen in everything from tombs to discarded silk flowers. Whatever dominated the place dominated all the other spirits with it.
