In the days and hours preceding Hurricane Gustav the streets emptied and the military entered the city in force. The National Guard are no stranger to our streets. They rescued a hell of a lot of people during Katrina and they are present here now during the Pandemic Crisis. Their help has been invaluable in every instant.
Convoys move down Canal Street, positioning themselves in strategic areas of the city to ride out the storm.
The man in the foreground is one of the cameramen from a south Florida affiliate. The building far to the back was the World Trade Center building. It was destroyed three years before in Katrina and has yet to reopen even now in 2020.
