I always felt this was probably the most iconic photo taken during that time. The waiting is sometimes worse than the storm itself. We all shuffled around, avoiding the rain bands and wondering what the next 24 hours would bring.
I remember flashing back the night I took this photo to three years before, as I watched a group of people in costume heading towards some party and thinking "fools, don't they know their is a storm coming?" I often wonder what happened to those people. They obviously were not leaving the city that night. We left, and barely made it out alive. Did any of them survive? And if they did, they treat Gustav as they treated Katrina that night?
