We lost the flag and the flag pole that night. This was taken just before it broke away from the building and nearly crashed down on the reporters below. The pole had a guide rope on it to pull the flag out and it swung by that until I could pull it in and secure it.
You can see the dark form of the Ursuline Convent across the street from the hotel. One of the most haunted buildings in New Orleans.
This photo was taken around 10pm. The storm had not even come on land yet, but the winds and rain were fierce. You can see from the buildings in the distance that we'd already lost the power in most of the Quarter at that point. It was only a matter of time before we were in the dark also.
