By mid morning the storm was in full force. We were still making rounds of the city. They'd closed the Mississippi River bridge at that point, so one could get across to the West Bank. But we'd surveyed many of the neighborhoods. The winds were making it difficult to drive at this point, so we made slow progress up past Jax Brewery (above) and past St Louis Cathedral, dodging branches, heavy limbs and flying debris.
We were intent on heading towards the 9th Ward where the some of the greatest flooding during Katrina had occurred but we were not sure we could get that far or even if the bridge over the Industrial Canal would be open. But we were going to give it a try.
