Blythe Smith is a visual artist from Finland. She holds an MA in Art Education from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture and a degree in visual arts from Art School MAA. She also holds an MA in English and French philology from the University of Helsinki.
In her art Blythe studies life; the good and the bad days, the multiple layers of experience, pain, happiness, motivation, fatigue, being young at heart and growing older. The varied layers of life materialize in her work where she tears up pieces of her old paintings and resamples them into something new.
During the COVID-19 crisis, Blythe’s artworks have centered on the insecurity and anxiety caused by the situation. She hopes that her art could bring points of relatability and comfort to people in this unprecedented stressful situation.
Blythe has had several (18) solo exhibitions, as well as several group exhibitions and video screenings.
