The Printmakers Afterlife is a journey of exploration into an old art form and the evolution of digital art as the medium of the new century. Engraving as an art form is still practiced today, but reached its height in the 18th century. As books became more widespread and photography not yet a predominant force within them, the book creators hired printmakers to illustrate their publications.
While I am not a printmaker, the art form has always fascinated me. A few months back while at an Estate Sale, I ran across a book full of prints that was falling apart. Most of the pages were loose and the text was in French. But it still fascinated me. I bought it and brought it home with me.
I'd done a lot of work on translating photos from 18th century into modern day surreal art. So it was only a matter of time before I decided to make an attempt to do the same using prints.
So here is the experimental work on converting low-res prints into hi-res art. Below is the original print.
