This print came from a 1915 book called Colliers Photographic History of the European War. The book was in pretty poor shape when it came into my possession. Many of the pages are torn and yellowed with age. Yet there is a core of amazing photography within what remains of it. This particular piece was called "Fighting at Ypres" and definitely shows how brutal the First World War was.
The original page had to be hand scanned in sections and put back together to get the whole image in. The art of scanning is almost as complex sometimes as the resurrection art. You'll find the original at the bottom of this page. What I find interesting is that its such a sad violent image, that re-imagining it in a surreal form just made it all the sadder.
The final resurrected piece is called "The Last Defenders of the Earth". Its up to you to decide who is the defender and who is the destroyer. This piece was a pleasure to bring back to life.
