The Carnival Abstracts

For a surrealist artist, the Carnival season in New Orleans is difficult. Its already so surreal that its hard to find ways to express Mardi Gras in a new way. For that reason this new series approaches Carnival from the abstract. While the images are still surreal, there is a blend of abstraction that places them in a different category from many depictions of Mardi Gras.

I am graced to have had extensive experience photographing and creating art from within the midst of the celebrations and behind the scenes. There is so much more than liquor and parades that the average tourist never sees. It is my hope that these change your perspective just a bit on what the Carnival season truly means to those that live here and how much we look forward to it returning in 2022 when the pandemic has hopefully passed away.
