"I CAN'T BREATHE"
The work was created from a collection of images and my own emotional response to the ongoing demonstrations here in Richmond, Virginia. Most notably as they center on the long standing statues of Confederate figures on Monument Avenue.This work was also created over an existing painting that featured the Lee Monument. As I created the piece, I did share IGTV videos on my instagram account @greigsart. What amazed me was that while I was working on the painting, it was announced by our Governor with the full support of our Mayor and City Council that all of the monuments (with the exception of Arthur Ashe) will be coming down.
The work is created using Shiva Paintstiks on 100% rag paper. It is 52"x40"
