The Bard - Artists to Authors Project

BACKGROUND

The Bard matches one author with multiple works of art. Author Stan Kempton has been developing a series of connected short stories based on individual pieces of art within Grey Cross's Spirits of the Dead Series

It was the authors prerogative which pieces of art he chose to work with within the series and his interpretation of those pieces. The rules were simple. Based only on the basic description of the series as laid out by the artist, and the title of the piece, craft a short story and connect each story together to form a complete set of stories and images.

The author has permission to craft as many stories as he wishes and the artist will be adding new art to the series periodically.

With that said, we present Spirits of the Dead. Images by Artist Grey Cross and stories by author Stan Kempton. Information on the author can be found at the end of this page.

Author Stan Kempton

Runner Up for 2015 Faulkner’s Word and Music, and semi-finalist at Glimmer Train, his work has appeared in the New Author’s Journal, Double Dealer and The Wisconsin Review. It’s the years of living multiple lives; from a Marine and husband, to a construction worker and dad, as well as a salesperson and designer that has given him not only the opportunity to discover his voice, but a perspective for both character and story that is balanced throughout his work.
